Helping People Heal From Alcohol & Other Drug Dependencies

Illness Concept

At NOVA, we don't treat symptoms; we treat the illness. We believe that chemical dependency is a disease rooted in changes that occur in the brain. We encourage people to examine the evidence that they have a disease, a disease that is amenable to intervention and one that, if left untreated, will prove progressive and ultimately fatal. Treatment involves balancing the whole person by addressing physical, societal, emotional, mental and spiritual needs.

The 12 Step process is a cornerstone of our treatment philosophy, an approach that has proven effectiveness.

Nova, like other treatment centers, believes that if persons are dependent on one mood altering substance, they are dependent on all mood altering substances. In other words, a beer drinker can't switch to marijuana and a heroin user can't drink beer. Substances may be ingested into the body in a variety of ways but they are processed in the liver and act on the brain in similar fashion.
