Admission to an addiction rehabilitation facility like Nova can be stressful. However, it may be the only way to find freedom from the hold of alcohol and drug addiction. At Nova, we try to help all clients feel welcome throughout their time at our facility, from their initial admission to their new found freedom at discharge.
Clients go through the following process at the time of admission:
Nova’s hours of admittance to our residential program are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. However, we may accommodate a late admission if approved by the clinical supervisor. Admission times are set by appointment and there may be a waiting list.
We ask that clients coming to Nova do not drive themselves, but rather are transported by family or friends. Upon arrival, clients are greeted by staff. A private meeting is then held with the new client to answer any questions, identify any withdraw symptoms and further prepare them for their experience at Nova. Payment information is reviewed and money is collected, as needed, at this time.
We then give all necessary information to the client’s family members/friends, including how to contact their loved one during rehabilitation, family visitation information and details about Nova’s family support program.
Once all this information has been provided and questions have been answered, there is a time to say goodbye.
The new client is then transported to a local clinic or hospital for the general fitness exam and tuberculosis test if these have not been taken care of prior to admission. Sometimes we learn at this point that detoxification services are needed at a hospital and those arrangements are worked out with the client and, when need be, the family.
Staff then assists the client in completing all necessary paperwork upon return from the clinic or hospital. Workbooks and other literature are handed out. A urine drug test is administered at some point during the day of admission.
All client belongings are then searched and a room is assigned within the Nova facility. There are two clients per bedroom. A “buddy” – an individual who is further along in their treatment and can assist the new client becoming comfortable in the first days of recovery – is also assigned and introduced to the new client.
We recommend bringing the following personal items:
As mentioned, staff will inspect all medications and personal items at the time of admission. This check is done for the safety of all. Medications are kept in the unit manager’s office and are available at set times during the day. Staff oversees the taking of medications.
